Since our earliest days, PFLAG has been the connector for LGBTQ+ people with community, parents with resources, and allies with tools, bolstering the LGBTQ+ movement with strength, power, and love.

Erica Redgate is a community servant who draws on her Native American heritage and a deep sense of purpose in all she does. She and her teenage son call Mount Pleasant home. As President of the Mount Pleasant chapter of PFLAG, Erica works to build a welcoming and affirming community for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families across Southeast Iowa. She also manages Meals by Nutrimos, a meal ministry providing nutritious, delicious, and sizeable entrées, with proceeds supporting Iowa Welcomes Immigrant Neighbors (Iowa WINS). Her work sits at the heart of food justice, immigrant support, and community care — a true reflection of her values and spirit.

Bob is going on 10 years as an Iowa resident. He cofounded PFLAG Mount Pleasant after retiring from Illinois where he was a member of PFLAG DuPage, He spent 48 years in IT starting in Vietnam in 1969 when the army volunteered him to be the unit's computer operator.
In addition to LGBTQ+ issues, he is active with Veterans for Peace, IowaWINs (an immigrant rights group), the Theatre Museum, and poltics.
He likes to go back to Chicago several times a year to see musicals, concerts, dance companies, and to visit the Art Institute and Vietnam Memorial.

Drew is a CPA and native Iowan, originally from Des Moines. She prides herself on being a safe LGBTQIA+ space for her child and their friends. In addition to volunteering with PFLAG, she volunteers with Meals by Nutrimos, Mt Pleasant Archery Team, and Mt Pleasant music boosters. In her free time, she enjoys reading, especially queer sci-fi and fantasy books.

Paul Winer and his wife are the proud parents of two adult daughters. A longtime ally and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Paul has served as Vice President of PFLAG Mount Pleasant, facilitates PFLAG National's monthly online Dad's Community, and is an active member of the chapter today. He also creates uplifting short videos for his YouTube channel, The Lamp at The Door, sharing encouragement and light with a growing audience — a practice influenced by his experiences as a Transcendental Meditation practitioner. Paul holds degrees in Computer Science and an MBA from the Georgia Institute of Technology and enjoyed a career as a management consultant serving retail, manufacturing, and service industries before retiring.
What We Do
All kinds of Stuff!
TapestryFest! This is our crowning achievement each year! On the Mt Pleasant Square we celebrate the cultures, people, food and music represented in SE Iowa!
Pride Month! – We march, table and attend as many events as we can!
Book Club! We hang together about quarterly and discuss a book. We’re all friends. Join us!
Tables! Tables! Tables! We try to have our table at as many events in the area as possible. School events, community events, business events, etc. We want everyone to know that everyone is loved. Yes, everyone!
What Else We Do
Provide Support – PFLAG facilitates separate monthly in-person and online support groups, as well as a weekly support group for parents and allies of transgender folks. We also provide periodic programs for special topics and events.
Offer Education – We provide different education topics relevant community needs. (back-to-school, coming out, etc.). We have a book club monthly as well. We often share our stories, and trans-specific education topics. We also do periodic special programs.
Advocate– PFLAG strives to partner with other local and National organizations to educate key decision-makers about the issues that affect our loved ones and families, and to teach others how to use their voices to amplify our efforts toward a more equitable, and just world for the LGBTQ+ community.
